When a character is driven to achieve something great, its usually influenced by the desire for respect of admiration from someone. They may be an major player in a field or simply someone that already admires an expert. The Idol acts as the moral compass off the story. But, need not be a paragon of virtue and should steer the character towards their own idea of the right path.
During the Persecution, the Symbol should mostly remain unavailable and aloof. A spontaneous act of kindness or interest that means little to The Idol is the spark that instigates interest from the Lead.
When things move to the Opportunity phase it is the role of The Idol to reward the hard work of the Lead with more attention and respect.
When the lead exposes their Weakness more distance or antagonism should be introduced to help drive the Lead to overcome their weakness.
When the Lead approaches the Ordeal, they are looking for their big second chance to regain their status in your eyes. You need to be encouraging but also judge the performance. If they are not up you your high standards then they must be rejected again.
Assuming everything goes well, then the Fulfilment stage is where the Lead regains your respect and maybe more. If not, they are left coming to terms with their failure to measure up to their standards and whether their goals is reward enough on
